Mindoro Island is divided into two provinces, Oriental and Occidental. Its main products are mostly agricultural but they also have beautiful and stunning tourist destinations that they can be proud of. From the historical sites to the beautiful white beaches, underwater richness, rain-forest from the mountains, and the people. I have tried solo backpacking to Mindoro several times and I can say that the people here are one of the most hospitable and friendly in the country. Here are some of the top tourist spots and destinations in Oriental Mindoro.
1. White Beach, Puerto Galera
White Beach is an area near the crowded center of Puerto Galera; one of the island hoping destinations. If you just want to relax on a beach with fine white sand and cool crystal-clear water, you can find it here. The area has a gorgeous landscape because of the trees by the beach. The serenity of this island is still maintained so you can have a relaxing day tour.
Puerto Galera is the top tourist spots in Oriental Mindoro because of its white beaches, island hoping and underwater activities. This summer destination is already commercialized so expect a modern design and world-class resorts and hotels. Most of the restaurants serve appetizing and mouth-watering delicacies. During the nighttime, this area transforms into a party haven, with fire dancers performing by the beach. Souvenir shops by the beach are also available.
2. Mt. Halcon
Mt. Halcon is one of the gems of Mindoro and is considered one of the most difficult mountains to hike in the Philippines. This giant separates Oriental to Occidental and has a wide rain-forest area being protected by the Mangyan tribe members. It has a very long trail and most parts of these are ascending up to the summit. I've visited a lot of river systems in the Philippines but the Dulangan river is one of the finest, because of its super clear and cool water.
3. Experience Underwater in Sabang.
Our group, Batang Hamog Mountaineers, usually make sure to participate in any Freedom related activities to celebrate the freedom that was proclaimed on June 12, 1898. This year, just to be out of our comfort zone we organized a Freedom Dive held in Sabang, Puerto Galera, Mindoro, which is one of the best diving spots in the Philippines. We all know that the Philippines is composed of more than seven thousand islands and are surrounded by water so scuba diving is just one of the must tried water activities.
