About Pulang Bato Falls
Located in the mountain town of Valencia in Negros Oriental, Pulang Bato Falls is one of the province’s most picturesque natural attractions. Its name literally means “red rock,” referring to the striking red-colored stones surrounding the falls — a result of natural minerals from the mountain’s geothermal activities. This unique hue gives the waterfall its fiery appearance, making it a must-see for photographers and nature enthusiasts visiting the Dumaguete area.
The waterfall is about 30 feet high, cascading into a clear, refreshing pool perfect for a quick dip. The lush greenery, warm air, and sound of rushing water create a relaxing escape just a short ride from the city. Aside from swimming, visitors can enjoy nearby hot springs and scenic mountain views that complete the Pulang Bato experience.
How to Get Here
From Dumaguete City, take a jeepney or habal-habal (motorcycle taxi) bound for Valencia. The trip takes about 20–30 minutes. Once in the town proper, hire another habal-habal going to Pulang Bato Falls. The road is scenic, passing through mountain views and lush vegetation. There’s a small parking area near the entrance, and the falls are just a short walk away.
Alternatively, you can rent a scooter in Dumaguete and include Pulang Bato Falls as part of your Valencia day tour, along with Casaroro Falls, Red Rock Hot Spring, and the Forest Camp. In my case, I chose commuting because I don't know how to drive. Kahit bike, ekis talaga!
What to Expect at Pulang Bato Falls
What makes Pulang Bato Falls truly special is the contrast between its crimson rocks and the cool, clear water that flows over them. The distinct red hue comes from sulfur deposits and iron minerals in the area, a reminder that Valencia sits within a geothermal zone.

The main falls area is well-developed with pathways, bridges, and cottages where visitors can rest or have a picnic. There’s also a smaller waterfall nearby for those seeking a quieter spot. The water is generally shallow near the edge, making it safe for casual swimming, though caution is still advised near the deeper parts.
Just a few minutes away is the Red Rock Hot Spring, where visitors can soak in naturally heated waters — a perfect way to unwind after a refreshing swim at Pulang Bato Falls.
Where to Stay
For convenience, most travelers stay in Dumaguete City, which offers a wide range of accommodations and dining options. From there, Pulang Bato Falls is just a quick day trip away. You can also find cozy resorts and mountain lodges in Valencia if you prefer to stay closer to nature. During my solo backpacking, I stayed at Antwet Backpackers Inn and Rooftop Bar.
